The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Highway Loss Data Institute teamed up to release the list of 2008’s top ten most stolen vehicles of 2008, and trucks and SUVs have proven to be the most swiped cars on the road. Though it seems like big ticket, high performance cars would be the most stolen vehicles, thieves seem to prefer boosting cars that blend in with traffic, can easily be sold for parts, or can be sold quickly because they're popular in foreign markets. The top ten most stolen cars of 2008 are, at number ten, 2005 through 2007 Honda S2000 convertibles, with 8.1 models of the car reported stolen per 1,000 insured vehicles in a year. At number nine are 2005-2007 Dodge Durango models, which are also stolen 8.1 times per 1,000, while 2005-2007 Hummer H2 models come in at number eight with 8.7 reported stolen per 1,000 insured. Number 7 are 2005-2007 models of the Dodge Magnum, which is stolen 9.9 times per 1,000 insured, and at number six we have the 2005-2007 Hummer H2 SUTs, 10 of which are stolen for every 1,000 that are insured. At number 5, 10.7 per 1,000 insured 2005-2007 Ford F-350 Supercrew Pickup Trucks are stolen, while The 2006-2007 models of the Dodge Charger are stolen 11 times out of 1,000 to come in at number 4. 11.3 2007 Cadillac Escalades are stolen for every 1,000 insured to come in at number 3, while the second most stolen car of 2008 is 2005-2007 models of the Ford F-250 SuperCrew, with 13.1 out of 1,000 stolen. And the number one most stolen vehicle of 2008 is the 2007 edition of the Cadillac Escalade ESV, as a whopping 15 per 1,000 insured are reported stolen.
