For four hours, and against the backdrop of three rock bands playing at the same time, a group of women led by Linder enact the gestures of 19th century Shaker worship. The piece explores ecstatic states, outsiderdom and religious non-conformism.01.04.2006 The Working Class Goes to Paradise was the performance strand of The Return of Linderland - a body of work that includes photography, film, print and artefact - some of which was exhibited at Cornerhouse, Manchester in 2000. The performers started one hour before the audience were let into the venue, performed for two hours with a live audience, and then continued for another hour after the audience were instructed to leave. This short film was made over various stages of the four-hour performance at the Tate Triennial 2006.
