MN Sec. Of State’s Personal Plea To Stop Drunk Drivers
Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie doesn’t know if new technology to prevent drunk driving would have saved his daughter's life. But he knows it will save others the pain and sorrow he and his wife have endured since a drunk driver killed his daughter almost 10 years ago. That drunk driver had previous run-ins with the law. Ritchie told the Minnesota House Crime Victims Committee about his personal loss and urged the commitee to approve a bill that would makes changes to DWI law designed to encourage participation in ignition interlock programs. It increases administrative license revocation and disqualification periods for DWI violations, while decreasing hard waiting periods for obtaining conditional and limited licenses if the person agrees to an ignition interlock restriction.
