Laminitis: A leading cause of death in horses
Laminitis is one of the leading causes of death in horses. In 2006, Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro shattered his right hind leg in the Preakness. His subsequent laminitis drew much attention to the disease. Research continues at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine at New Bolton Center to find causes, treatments and a potential cure for the dreaded disease.
