Turner Prize Artist’s Talk: Tomma Abts
In a unique event, Tomma Abts joins Jan Verwoert of the Kunstverein Munich and the Academy of Umeå and a contributor to frieze, Springerin and Camera Austria to talk about her work.07.11.2006 Tomma Abts approaches each canvas without any preconception, and each of her abstract paintings is the result of a long process. The strict geometric compositions of the works do not refer to things seen, but develop from the generative logic of the multiple layers of paint. She describes her finely calibrated compositions as ‘having to do with holding and unfolding the space in the way that every part of the picture plane is active.’
