Velvia Jitter - Super 8
A roll of Velvia from Spectra Film and Video I tested using a Canon Auto Zoom Electronic from the Fall of '08. I love the colors and lack of grain from this stock, but due to the films thickness, it tends to cause jitter with some cameras. This clip shows before and after comparisons I made using Virtualdub Deshaker to minimize the effect. It helped to a large degree, but tends to leave some artifacting, skipping and temporal distortions on the corrected image. I was not inclined to test another roll, using the Deshaker adds a lot more time to putting this together. In all fairness I should mention that Spectra recently informed me that their next batch of these films will have a better balance of the silicone they use to lube the cartridge, and they feel they may have gotten it right this time. So I will probably test a roll soon with different cameras to see the results. DIY Telecine Processed by Spectra Films
