Procedure and House Affairs (March 21, 2011)
In Committee From The House Of Commons Procedure and House Affairs (March 21, 2011)The committee finalized a report recommending that the Conservative government be found in contempt of Parliament over its failure to provide requested cost details for several of its key initiatives. Conservative committee members submitted a dissenting report that disputed the contempt finding. Committee members had held two days of special hearings last week on whether the government should be found in contempt by not giving sufficient cost details of its crime bills, corporate tax cuts and the plan to buy of new F-35 fighter jets. If the House of Commons votes in favour of the committee’s contempt report, it would be the first time that a government in the Commonwealth has been found in contempt of Parliament.
