World Music: Dengue Fever, "Seeing Hands"
-Download on iTunes-Buy the album(USA/Cambodia) Dengue Fever is the creation of two brothers who fell in love with a strange hybrid music. On a trip to Cambodia they heard recordings of rock/pop music of a bygone era from before the bloodbaths of the Khmer Rouge. The musicians who made the music had been all but wiped out, but their recordings were still vastly popular and compelling. Back in the USA, the brothers Holzman set out to find their chanteuse, and once she (Chhom Nimol) had been located, Dengue Fever was ready to start enchanting audiences. As a video, "Seeing Hands" may reference the futuristic "The Road Warrior" but musically, it is firmly rooted in genres of the past as surf music and psychedelia mix with the sound of pure pop vocals.
