Study looks at effectiveness of back surgery 10-14-10
Back surgery may backfire on patients in pain. A new study looked at 1500 patients who had disc degeneration, or disc herniation. Half had surgery to fuse two or more vertebrae in hopes to curing low back pain. The other half did not have surgery. After two years, just 26 percent of those who had surgery returned to work.  That’s compared to 67 percent who didn't have surgery.
