Art Now: Melanie Smith: Parres
Artist Interview17.06.2006 Set in the small town of Parres, just outside of Mexico City, this trilogy of films explore the construction and break down of pictorial illusion by deliberately making visible the processes of film and painting. The town was selected for its anonymity, neither recognizably Mexican, nor central European. Each film explores the disappearance, or revealing, of the visible world through the transformative process of monochromatic painting.
