The Prisoner’s Dilemma
In the winter of 1944-45, the little known Battle of Hurtgen Forest was fought in a gloomy, ice-covered fifty square mile section of hilly woods on the Belgian-German border. Twenty-four thousand American soldiers died. It was one of the bloodiest battles of WWII.The Prisoner’s Dilemma is the story of four soldiers, two Americans and two Germans, isolated during that battle. The film centers on the character of Gonzo, an idiot savant of sorts, shell-shocked by an existence that he seems to exert no control over. As he tries to make sense of his buddy Charlie's thoughts on the war and the two soldiers role in it, he must also try to make sense of his own opinions on what he sees happening around him. Also commentary by director Jeff Burkett on the original scenes as shot, before they were compressed down to 19 minutes total running time.
