Hiroshima loss inspires American doctor
March 17: Dr. Ritsuko Komaki grew up in Hiroshima, Japan, but was living in a town hundreds of miles away when the atomic bomb was dropped. Inspired by the loss of a childhood friend in Hiroshima, she became a radiation oncologist with the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Komaki discusses her friend and the danger of accidental exposure to high levels of radiation.
