Mowing Weeds in Maine
iReport — Well...LOLI’ve been depressed this summer, and was enjoying the many wildflowers in my un-mown fields, while slowly planting a garden at the VA clinic in Maine, a place I actually care about....LOLI guess I find myself rather lonely and isolated up here, and for me, it's not an easy place to live. So here you can see me, badmouthing Danforth again, BUT THAT'S ONLY FOR ME. I think a lot of positive things happen in Danforth. Many happy people here, happy families, as well as a lot of tragedy. But like an old timer said to me last February as he walked in to the food market, "Welcome to Eden!" LOLIf you open the Houlton Pioneer Times, you always see many positive activities in Danforth, at the school, and other places. I think that a lot of my dissatisfaction is internally generated, although, like I said, I’ve met some other town residents who seemed disillusioned, also.It gets pretty tough here in the winter. We are very isolated. And if you're not a small town person with family, this might not be the ideal place for you. On the other hand, who is to say about that, anyway?I met a couple my age at the Bangor Wal-Mart parking lot who lived in an outlying rural town, much closer to Bangor than where I live. They are in their second summer in Maine, having escaped Washington, DC, and I told them that they are still on their, "Maine Honeymoon!" Give it ten years, I said, and tell me about it.So my auto has failed, and I'm hanging around the house, cutting weeds in my field. How exciting that is....LOL PS I put this in the, " HOW HOT IS IT," category in CNN Assignments, because IT IS NOT VERY HOT.Here it is, a sunny afternoon in July, and I think the temperature was around 70 degrees. That's not too bad, considering the temperatures I've been reading about in the rest of the USA. But, of course, we will bear the brunt of the cold and snow next winter. I said, "we," and I wonder if I will still be here at that point in time?
