to Tajeme
to Tajeme — This video was created in response to an assignment for an Advanced Drawing class to make a drawing about nothing. The medium was our choice. As I walked on High Street, Columbus, OH, I noticed a small paper remnant barely attached at one point to a telephone pole. I captured its movement with my Blackberry as it quivered from the motion of oncoming traffic. To emphasize the abandoned nothingness, for the drawing critique I set up my video projection in a closet below the bottom shelf. During my preparations, at 4:57 pm on Tuesday, January 12, 2011, an old college friend from Brooklyn, NY called to tell me that her nephew Tajeme had been shot in the head. He was only 30 years old. He was a beautiful human being taken away from this world by a senseless act of violence. He had a genuine smile, and even though he was very tall, he could relate on any level.to tell me that her nephew Tajeme had been shot in the head. He was only 30 years old. He was a beautiful human being taken away from this world by a senseless act of violence. He had a genuine smile, and even though he was very tall, he could relate on any level. I realized then that nothing becomes something when it is known.
