Sierra Leone - Ella’s story
This video - filmed in Sierra Leone - highlights a day in the life of Ella, a Red Cross Society worker. Her family were some of the 2 million people who were displaced during the civil war which raged from 1991 until 2002. Rebels looted her house and then burned it down. Her parents, grandparents, uncles and some of her brothers were killed. She escaped and joined the Red Cross. When the war ended the Sierra Leone Red Cross launched the Community Animation and Peace Support (CAPS) programme to help reconcile communities. Land Rover has committed to help the Red Cross step up this programme with the donation of vehicles and finance, along with programmes in 14 other countries. In addition, and in response to the worsening situation in Pakistan affecting over 14 million people in an area equivalent to the size of the UK, Land Rover is donating six Defender 110 station wagons to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society to help its disaster relief operation.
