Scrums Statistics Canada reported today that Canadians’ debt-to-income ratio is at record high. Finance Minister Jim Flaherty spoke to reporters about the concerns over household debt.Liberal Deputy leader Ralph Goodale, Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe and NDP leader Jack Layton discussed Elections Canada’s allegations of the Conservatives’ improper campaign spending in Quebec during the 2006 election and also the issue of household debt.Liberal MP Denis Coderre spoke to reporters about the situation in Haiti. The Speaker of the House granted Coderre’s request for an emergency debate in the House of Commons tonight on Haiti. Coderre says that there is a need for Canada to have a special envoy to Haiti. NDP Foreign Affairs critic Paul Dewar discussed the Iranian government’s concerns over Canada’s handling of the case involving Yazdan Ghiasvand Ghiasi, the Iranian-Canadian teenager who was killed in Ottawa last week. Dewar also commented on Haiti and on the proposed security deal between Canada and the United States.
