World Music: Habib Koite, "N’Teri"
-Download the song-Buy the album(Mali) Here’s a live performance in Belgium by Habib Koite of Mali, one of world music’s foremost guitarists. His unique finger picking style is based upon the playing of the kamal ngoni, a traditional harp-like instrument. His much anticipated CD “Afriki” follows six years of touring, and during this period the songs had plenty of time to gestate and mellow. “N’Teri” is a gentle song about the value of real friendship, and Koite sings: “You met me with a smile; God will return it to you/ You grasped my hands tightly and filled me with your power/ You invited me to sit in the shade of a tree/ You gave me tea to drink…. / For all those who have showed me a day of respect / I love you, follow you, and greet you, acknowledge you.”
