Drugs and HIV Evolution
Standard treatment for HIV with single-drug therapy changed in 1996, when a new class of antiretroviral drugs was approved. The resulting "highly active antiretroviral therapy" combines a powerful drug cocktail that causes greater disruption to the HIV life cycle and has lowered AIDS deaths in developed nations.
