Scrums Heritage Minister James Moore wrote in a weekend Twitter post that the Vancouver Canucks were Canada’s team in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The B.C. MP spoke to reporters about his views. The Montreal Canadiens are the other Canadian team that are still in the playoffs. NDP Leader Jack Layton and Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe also weighed in on Moore’s comments.   Layton and Duceppe also spoke to reporters about the government’s plans to save $1.7 billion through a spending review of 13 departments and agencies. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is threatening to become the worst environmental disaster in the United States. Layton and Liberal Environment Critic David McGuinty raised concerns over the possibility of such spills happening in Canada. Liberal MP Anita Neville reacted to comments made by Conservative Senator Nancy Ruth to aid groups who were meeting on Parliament Hill. The groups were protesting Canada’s position against funding abortion.
