Palais des Papes
Symbole du rayonnement de lEglise sur lOccident au XIVème siècle, le Palais des Papes est classé par lUNESCO au "patrimoine mondial de lhumanité" depuis 1995. En 1309, Clément V installe la Cour pontificale en Avignon, pensant le séjour temporaire. Il durera 70 ans : sept papes habiteront le Palais des Papes et deux d'entre eux, Clément VII et Benoît XII, en feront un ensemble architectural unique.
