Chelsea Ryan is a middle school student who is attractive and bright but suffers the same insecurities many teens face growing up. The Chatterbox Competition provides a perfect chance for Chelsea to prove her popularity. The winner must get the most votes, demonstrate community service, and perform at the contest’s talent event. Chelsea's two best friends, Steph and Tina, are ready to help her win, but her folks won't let her compete fearing her studies will suffer. It's a tough decision but Chelsea decides to defy them and go for it. Her main rival, Valerie, is a snob who thinks she's entitled to win and will stop at nothing to do it. To compete with Valerie, Chelsea gets helps from an unexpected source, Jess, Valerie's former best friend. These two have always been alike and Steph and Tina think Jess's motives are suspicious.
