Stat chat seminar [electronic resource] / Brenda K. Edwards.
(CIT): Dr. Brenda K. Edwards, Associate Director of the Surveillance Research Program, Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences, NCI, will present the annual cancer statistics, reporting on data for 1975-2005. The 2008 seminar will cover cancer rates and trends in incidence and mortality for the top 15 cancers diagnosed in men and women, and for the major racial/ethnic populations. Information will be presented about specific cancer sites with unusual changes in trend, stage at diagnosis, and/or differentials in cancer burden. In addition, the presentation will include a limited discussion of the impact on cancer rates due to the 2005 effects of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the undercount of cancer cases due to the Veterans Hospital Administration policy change in reporting cancer to population registries, and complexities of available data on stage and cause specific survival. SEER Program data cover approximately 10% of the U.S. population for more than 30 years, and 26% of the U.S. population for six years.
