京都の夏の風物詩「祇園祭」が、クライマックスの「山鉾巡行(やまぼこじゅんこう)」を迎え、沿道には20万人以上が詰めかけました。京都の最高気温は35.7度を記録し、猛暑日となりましたが、重さ10トンを超える「鉾」を交差点で90度回転させる「辻回し」が決まると、見物客からは、大きな拍手と歓声が上がっていました。
