Jurisprudence Margaret Patricia Kerr v. Nelson Dennis Baranow - April 21st, 2010 Case # 33157 The Supreme Court must decide how to divide assets in the breakup of a common-law relationship. Kerr and Baranow separated in 2006 after a 26-year common law relationship. Baranow’s assets were substantially higher than Kerr's at the time of the separation. Kerr was unable to work after a massive stroke in 1991 left her partially paralyzed.  Michele Vanasse v. David Seguin - April 21st, 2010 Case # 33358 Vanasse and Seguin's common law relationship ended in 2005 after almost 12 years. Vanasse quit her job at CSIS to raise the couple's two children and run the household. Seguin made $11 million when his company was bought out by a U.S. company. Vanasse was awarded both child and spousal support. At issue in this appeal is Vanasse's monetary award for unjust enrichment. The trial judge awarded Vanasse almost $1 million for unjust enrichment.
