May 21: Big moment for regulation amid market turmoil
The US Senate approved a sweeping overhaul of financial regulation on Thursday evening, paving the way for President Barack Obama to sign it into law and forcing big banks into major restructuring. Brooke Masters, regulation correspondent, tells Daniel Garrahan that the bill represents a significant a moment for regulation; it won’t stop future busts occurring but the bill could prevent situations that require government rescues.
