Dr Maria-Victoria Mateos discusses the data from a Phase III trial investigating various triplet and doublet regimens containing bortezomib in previously untreated elderly multiple myeloma patients. Dr Mateos concluded that VMP and VTP induction regimens showed comparable efficacy but differing toxicity profiles. Most important, in Dr Mateos' view, was the observation that these induction and maintenance regimens showed the ability to overcome the poor prognosis of high-risk elderly multiple myeloma patients.
