TateShots: Mitch Epstein, American Power
In his photographic series ‘American Power’, Mitch Epstein investigates notions of power, both electrical and political. It started with a photographic assignment for the New York Times about a coal-fired power plant in Ohio in 2003. Epstein worked on the series over the next five years, expanding his project to address the environmental implications of power production and consumption across the United States, and including several images taken in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In this film Epstein talks about images from ‘American Power’ that are on show at Tate Modern.
