With the global economic slowdown, many countries are now in a recession, hampering China’s exports. The central government addressed this by launching a 4 trillion yuan stimulus package. The "financial tsunami" seems to be working in the merger and aquisition's industry's favour as we see more mergers and consolidations in almost every industry. Not even the sturdiest of companies is completely safe from takeovers during an unprecedented time like this. There are calls on the Hong Kong government to follow the leads of Japan, Macau and Taiwan by giving spending money to the population, in the way of spending vouchers to help stimulate the retail sector. But others argue that it won't work because people will just use the vouchers, and bank the $1,000 they save. There are also calls for the Financial Secretary to move the budget speech forward to announce relief measures.
