Nuclear Power Pakistan - Destabilized by Terrorism?
Nuclear Power Pakistan - Destabilized by Terrorism? Pakistan is currently engaged in its biggest military offensive in the war against terror. A force of 30 thousand troops has been fighting for days in the region of South Waziristan. They’re facing some 15 thousand heavily armed Taliban and al-Qaida fighters. Thousands of civilians are meanwhile fleeing the region. The offensive is a reaction to a series of bloody terrorist attacks "holy warriors" or "jihadists" have carried out on Pakistani soldiers, police and civilians. The incident is being described as an intentional provocation of the Pakistani state and its powerful military. Some say it was simply the logical result of leaving the Taliban alone for too long. Up until now, the jihadists guaranteed Islamabad's continued influence with Afghanistan and other allies in Pakistan's rivalry with arch-enemy India. But now, those days appear to be over.
