Trade Deals and Unemployment Assistance
Howard Rosen talked about the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program and its role in pending trade deals (Columbia, South Korea and Panama). TAA augments health and unemployment benefits for workers who lose jobs because of overseas competition. Democrats would like to see TAA be part of the remaining deals though House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp released draft legislation this week that does not extend TAA to the trade deals. He responded to telephone calls and electronic communications.
