Moving Images: Agnès Varda
Moving Images is a collaboration between Tate Modern and Research at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design bringing to London major figures working in or on film and video to explore contemporary issues around these media.25.04.2002 Continuing the series of talks by major figures working in or on film and video, the film-maker Agnès Varda talked about her work and ideas. Trained in art and photography, Varda’s first feature La Pointe courte (1954) anticipated the aesthetics of the French New Wave. Later films, including Cléo from Five to Seven (1961) through to The Gleaners and I (2000), brought her international acclaim. Her work is distinctive in its interlacing of narrative and documentary, and its involvement in the everyday lives of women.
