Why do I need an ICD?
Normally, the heart beats between 60-100 times per minute but when there’s an abnormality in the heart's conduction or electrical system, it can cause the heart to beat faster than 100 times per minute at a dangerously high rate. When these abnormal heart rhythms called arrhythmias occur, a device called an implantable cardioverter defibrillator or ICD is often used to shock the heart back to its normal rhythm.
