Telstra Drug Aware Pro Day 2
Day two of the ASP Prime rated Telstra Drug Aware Pro Margaret River saw the women’s round of 24 take advantage of the beautiful four to five foot surf (2 meter) on offer.The international field featuring surfers from Argentina, France, South Africa, USA and New Zealand was dominated by the local Australian contingent, with Aussies advancing from all of the six heats surfed. Of the twelve surfers remaining in the event, seven are Australian including - defending event champion Chelsea Hedges, locals Felicity Palmateer and Caire Bevilacqua and today's highest heat scorer Jessi Miley-Dyer.Round one of the Men's division entered the water today and the opening heat saw Australian Adrian "Ace" Buchan (Central Coast) advance in second place in the four man heat behind Jonathon Gonzales (Canary Islands).Hawaii's Granger Larson was one of the most impressive international surfers today defeating Dylan Graves of Puerto Rico.Late in the day 21 year old Gold Coast surfer Mitch Crews posted the days top scoring heat win posting 16.16 for his top two scoring rides...the highest of the event so far.10 times World Champion Kelly Slater, who's situated in the second half of the draw is expected to surf his opening heat tomorrow.
