How Pumps in Jordan Can Aid Climate Protection Efforts Global 3000
Jordan’s water supply problems pose the one of the biggest challenges to the country's development. Water must be transported from the Jordan valley, which lies below sea level, to people in urban areas - a difference in altitude of more than 1000 meters. Because many of the water pumps in use are outdated, Jordan's water authority is one of the country's biggest consumers of electricity. The German aid organization GTZ is testing how to move the water more efficiently using energy-saving pumps. Since fossil fuel sources account for the bulk of Jordan's power supply, the project could also help the country reduce its CO2 emissions. Find out more in our report, in partnership with the International Climate Protection Initiative.
