Surgeon Views on Lumbar Disc Replacement Surgery
Using audience participation the presenters attempt to identify preferences of the spine surgeons participating in the Low Back Forum as to specific indications for lumbar disc replacement surgery. Based on their findings, the currently FDA released lumbar disc replacement devices are more marketing-driven initiatives rather than patient-need derived. Moreover, these devices appear to be mainly applicable for a very narrowly definable segment of patients suffering from long-standing low back pain in the opinion of the surgeons attending this forum.
