大相撲秋場所6日目。横綱・白鵬は、琴奨菊と対戦した。はたき込みであっさりと琴奨菊を破った白鵬は、53連勝目を挙げ、昭和以降2位の記録となる千代の富士の53連勝に並んだ。白鵬に連勝記録を並ばれた元横綱・千代の富士、九重親方は「(自らの記録に)余裕で並んだ。ここまで来たら超えてほしい。立派の一言」とコメントした。
