Painting Present is a collaboration between Tate Modern and the MA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design bringing to London major figures working in or on painting to explore contemporary issues around this media.29.04.2003 The eighth of the series of events which explored the condition of painting now.Leading Los Angeles-based artist Monique Prieto is known for making bold abstractions using what at first glance appear to be primary colours and basic shapes that are haphazardly arranged. In fact each element of the composition, whether invented or incorporating the random, is carefully calculated and revised on the computer. Her practice represents one of the ways in which contemporary painting is responding to a culture increasingly shaped by new media.
