Garmin Nuvi GPS
The Garmin Nuvi GPS is looking to topple the aftermarket GPS market dominating Tom Tom Go. For me this is an interesting comparison, since I personally own products from both companies. The top of the line Nuvi 880 features voice recognition that allows you to speak commands to pull up directions and navigate the system’s interface while keeping your hands on the wheel. The 880 also features MSN direct, so you can go online to check weather and traffic conditions along your route. But if you can't afford the 880's hefty almost $1100 dollar price tag, Garmin offers other, more affordable Nuvi options that are nearly as fully loaded. The Nuvi 250w model, which retails for about 320 dollars, has an easy to navigate touch-screen display and comes preloaded with a huge database of City Navigator street maps to help you find your way through every major city in the US, and thousands of points of interest across the country, including hotels, airports, restaurants, ATMs, gas stations, and famous landmarks. You can also enter an endless number of custom points of interest if the preloaded database doesn't quite cover your bases, and the Nuvi will take where you need to go with onscreen 2D or 3D maps with turn by turn voice directions. The bells and whistles don't end with navigation... the Nuvi also allows you to load and view pictures, check the time in multiple time zones, and even check currency conversion rates if you are crossing the border. For security, it features the Garmin Lock anti theft device to discourage thieves from breaking into your car and stealing you shiny new Nuvi. The Garmin Nuvi line easily stands head to head with Tom Tom Go Navigators in terms of price and features, so whether you want the top of the line 880 or the more modest 250, a Garmin Nuvi GPS Navigator will get you where you're trying to go.
