Foreign Body Recovery This 24 year old lady with a history of depression and multiple suicide attempts claimed she had swallowed a nail. The object never passed spontaneously. Even surgical exploration performed at an outside hospital failed to recover the object. Here the use of a snare is demonstrated to capture the object. Several tools are available to retrieve foreign bodies from the gastrointestinal lumen. The Roth net is a net-like device with a purse string feature to close around any object trapped in the net. Rat tooth forceps are specifically designed to grab firmly on to both smooth and irregularly shaped objects. Often foreign bodies will pass from the colon with patience and the assistance of a PEG lavage. Because of the reported history that she had swallowed a sharp object, we pursued this with an endoscopic retrieval. This object could later be identified as a shelving peg.
