スペースシャトル最後の打ち上げへ 9日未明の打ち上げ予定も現地付近は雷雨の予想
NASA(アメリカ航空宇宙局)の最後のスペースシャトル「アトランティス」が、日本時間の9日未明に打ち上げられる予定。現地周辺では雷雨が予想されており、打ち上げが延期される可能性が高まっている。「アトランティス」の打ち上げは、日本時間9日午前0時26分に予定されているが、フロリダ州のケネディ宇宙センター周辺では、現地時間7日も雷雨が発生し、シャトル近くに2度落雷した。このため、機体に影響がないか、最終チェックが行われた。引き続き雷雨の可能性が高く、打ち上げが予定通り行われる確率は30%となっている。1981年以来、日本人7人を含む356人の飛行士を宇宙に運んだスペースシャトルだが、厳しい財政事情を背景に、アトランティスの引退をもって、シャトル30年間の歴史に幕を下ろすことになる。
