Simsbury and Bristol play it safe on ground out
The Simsbury and Bristol American Legion baseball teams played at Memorial Field Friday evening with the Zone I title on the line. In the top of the first, Simsbury pitcher Jason Byers (East Granby) was in need of a big out. Already down 1-0 with Bristol runner Matt Bossi on third base, Byers faced cleanup batter Austin Howard. Byers got a big out when Bossi grounded out to second baseman Alex Mortillaro (Simsbury). Mortillaro made sure to look Bossi back to third base before throwing to first baseman Mike Gibbons (Simsbury resident, Avon Old Farms) for the out. Bristol won the game 5-1 to capture the Zone I crown.
