Organizational Dilemma of Stewards and Creators
Stewards and Creators is based on research of Harvard professor Rob Austin and University of Washington professor Dick Nolan on missed opportunities of capturing the commercial value of Internet1 innovations. The major question addressed by Austin and Nolan in their Harvard Business School Working paper and this UWTV program is how do businesses consistently miss major innovation opportunities after pouring significant investments to create them. They attempt to answer this by observing the fundamental differences in the value systems of those they call creators - scientists and others who come up with the innovations, and stewards - those who manage the companies that fund the research. The professors contend that facilitating communication between creators and stewards is key to effective 21st century company strategies. From the Series:Seattle Innovation Symposium
