Advocate photographer captures Joplin tornado aftermath
Jopiln, Missouri, was the site of the most devastating tornado strike in US history. On May 22, 2011, a category EF-5 tornado touched down and killed 138 people, destroying nearly 30 percent of the town. Hospitals, schools and entire neighborhoods were completely wiped out, prompting a visit from President Obama on Memorial Day weekend and an outpouring of national aid and support. Advocate photograher Benjamin Hager visited Joplin shortly after the storm and brought back these haunting images.
