Zagreb is a major city in the northern Balkans with the population of nearly 1 million people. It is positioned close to Slovenia border which is to the north of the country. First recorded settlement was during the Roman Empire and in 1st century AD was called Andautonia. In 1094 ut was named Zagreb the name which is still present.   River Sava runs through the city which expanded conciderably after the World War II when people inhabited southern and western part of the city and so created 'South' and 'West' Zagreb. During the times of seperation from Former Yugoslavia this city witnessed several rocket attacks from Yugoslav Army (Serbian military). They were actualy aiming to hit the President of Croatia (dr. Franjo Tudjman) himself since he was residing in the Presidential Palace called Banski Dvori. Today Zagreb is well established, advanced and modern city which is well connected with the western markets.
