Grand Dome at State Capitol
OKLAHOMA CITY The Oklahoma State Capitol is even more beautiful since the addition of the grand $21 million dome. Dedicated in 2002, the new dome represents Oklahoma in every piece of granite, in every paint stroke. Inside, the bright colors of the dome mirror the colors of the state wild flower, the Gaillardia. The deep purples, quiet greens, and bright reds, oranges and yellows bring the fields of Oklahoma into the ceilings of her Capitol. A wide array of Oklahoma art adorns the halls of the Capitol, such as the series Visions of the Land by painter Wilson Hurley. Outside, a great Native American statue, The Guardian, keeps watch over the land from the pinnacle of the dome. The new dome and the attention to Oklahoma culture and art make the Oklahoma State Capitol a must for tourists and natives alike. For more, visit TravelOK.com. Originally aired December 22, 2003.
