Gas "burp" forces evacuation
A suspected natural gas leak forced the evacuation of several KU buildings along Sunnyside Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Officials from the KU Office of Public Safety and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire and Medical had all persons leave the Dole Human Development Center, the Robinson Center, Malott Hall and Haworth Hall while they investigated reports of a natural gas smell. The officials concluded that the smell was probably due to a natural gas "burp," which is a safe, natural occurrence, and let people back in the buildings shortly after the evacuation.
