Hands Across the Sand-Blue Mountain Beach FL
iReport — One year ago today, we were dealing with a major influx of oil from BP’s Deepwater Horizon disaster.Today, a year later, dozens of concerned citizens joined together in solidarity to show their opposition to Florida's legislature approving offshore drilling in the northern Gulf of Mexico. How can this even be considered when our beaches are still being soiled with oil and tarballs from the BP explosion? Has the state legislator traveled to California to see what the Pacific Ocean looks like with oil rigs perched near their shoreline? Have they researched why California has discontinued these efforts? Is it worth the risk of our pristine white beaches being continually contaminated due to offshore drilling in our waters? For more about Hands Across the Sand, visit: EMERALD COAST is involved with monitoring and testing the beaches for oil and dispersant along the panhandle of Florida.
