World Music: Tummel, "Bhangri-La"
(Sweden/Denmark) That irresistable Punjabi beat called bhangra has been steadily seducing club goers worldwide, and so it’s not all that surprising that it has hit Scandinavia. The band Tummel, which has been around for 12 years, started out with an affinity for music from Eastern Europe and the Balkans, but has developed a more eclectic and by now, mostly original repertoire. "Bhangri-La" is a clever fusion of European "exotica," rock and bhangra that is a ton of fun.
