John Barry: An American Hero in the Age of Sail
Tim McGrath talked about his book John Barry: An American Hero in the Age of Sail. The man regarded as the Father of the American Navy, Commodore John Barry remains one of the unsung heros of the American Republic. Sent to sea as a child, he arrived in Philadelphia before the American Revolution, ascending the ranks to become a successful merchant captain at a young age and commanded the most prestigious ship in the colonies. He recorded the fastest known day of sail in the century. During the Revolutionary War, he captured the first enemy warship taken by a Continental vessel and fought the last battle of the War for Independence. Mr. McGrath talked about the story behind Commodore Barry in the church where he was married, Christ Church in Philadelphia.
