Nike Protest Jakarta
On 23rd July 2007 thousands of people came out in Jakarta to protest Nike’s decision to cancel shoe manufacture contracts in two factories in Indonesia. Around 115,000 workers are employed by sub-contractors to Nike to produce shoes in Indonesia. When Nike cancels these contracts workers are left without severance pay. Protestors held anti-Nike placards but the protest had a peaceful vibe. This video was shot on mobile phone as protestors headed towards the main demonstration at the Jakarta Stock Exchange.
